All Saints Neighborhood Projects

All Saints Neighborhood Projects

My wife and I moved to the All Saints Neighborhood (just south of downtown Sioux Falls, SD) in the spring of 2016. Since then, I’ve organized and led several community projects that have aimed to beautify and unify the neighborhood as well as create safer streets for all forms of transportation. I was a member of the All Saints Neighborhood Association Board from 2016-2022.

Crosswalk

During our neighborhood's annual National Night Out celebration in 2018, I designed and organized the painting of a crosswalk at a notoriously dangerous intersection in an attempt to draw more attention to the pedestrians that may be crossing.

Sculpture

To enhance the beauty of our neighborhood park and bring further attention to a busy intersection, I helped coordinate the creation, funding, and placement of "Effortlessly Bouyant" in Lyon Park as a member of the All Saints Neighborhood Board of Directors in the winter of 2020. The piece was sculpted by local artist Cameron Stahlheim, cast by Bronze Age Art Casting, and paid for through a grant from the City of Sioux Falls.

Parking Lane Lines

Painting parking lane lines is a proven method to slow down speeding cars. The lines help visual shrink the width of the road, causing drivers to slow down. In the summer of 2016 I worked with the city of Sioux Falls to have several blocks of parking lane lines added to the All Saints Neighborhood. After testing before and after the lines where added, we saw average speeds on the 30mph roads go from 33mph on average to 28mph.

17th & Phillips

Our neighborhood association worked with the city planning department to redesign this three-way intersection that wasn’t very safe for pedestrians or motorists. After the city laid out the bollards, I added the purple paint to further delineate the temporary bump-outs that had been installed. After a successful season, the design was made permanent the following spring.

Intersection Mural

Intersection murals are a well known technique to slow speeding cars through residential neighborhoods. I led the redesign and repainting of this mural in the All Saints Neighborhood originally designed by artist John Boylan.
